Community Services

"Just as you did (or did not do) to one of the least of my brethren, you did it to me." --Jesus Christ

(see Matthew 25:31-45)

THANK YOU!

"On behalf of the Church and the United Way Services of Geauga County, many thanks to all who gave so generously to the Christmastime offering for the Senior Discretionary Fund. Your outstanding annual commitment to this fund on Christmas Eve provides special assistance to senior or disabled Geauga County residents. The fund is able to improve their quality of life through your kindness. All people served are grateful. You can take pride in knowing that you are making a difference in our community."

Food Cupboard

Burton UCC participates in the Geauga County Hunger Task Force, in conjunction witht the United Way 211 “Call for Help” system. Several church members volunteer to staff our pantry--one site among several in the county that are open to serve those in need of food. Donations of non-perishable food items are always welcome.

Thanksgiving & Christmas Families

The Geauga Department of Job & Family Services helps our Church identify families in the county who seek assistance during the holidays. We then provide these families with special holiday baskets of food items, and Christmas gifts.

Churchmouse

Our Church & Community Committee oversees this effort to provide special financial assistance to local students’ families, particularly the costs of basic supplies for the beginning of the school year.

Good Samaritan Dinners

On the 3rd Wednesday of the month, members of the church prepare and serve a delicious dinner which is enjoyed by many members of the local community. Proceeds from these dinners are deposited to a discretionary assistance fund, administered by the Pastor.

Senior Discretionary Fund

Every Christmas season, those who worship with us voluntarily contribute to this fund which was instituted by our Church in 1973. To date, over $80,000 has been forwarded to the Geauga United Way, providing special assistance to those elderly in our community who are among the most vulnerable and isolated; helping those who struggle to pay utility bills, rent, purchase prescription medications, repair their homes and autos, pay their rent, or buy fuel to heat their homes.

Pastoral counseling & referral

We are always ready and willing to help anyone take the "first step" toward finding what they need in order to deal with life’s spiritual challenges.

Endowment Fund

Burton Congregational’s Endowment Fund was established solely for the purpose of supporting efforts in our community and beyond to make this world a better place. Interest from the Endowment is given away to such ministries as Geauga County Habitat for Humanity, Geauga Cooperative Ministry Scholarship, Geauga County Womansafe, Good News Jail Ministry, Geauga County CASA, the church’s Nursery School Scholarships, the Das Deutch Center, CUE, Youth Camp Scholarships, and the Metzenbaum Center

Scrappers

This lively group of women gathers twice each month to produce beautiful hand-made lap quilts from leftover fabric. These quilts are then given away, including local nursing homes, special needs residences, battered womens shelters, and teen pregnancy programs.

Geauga Cooperative Ministry

Working with seven other congregations in the county, we support a scholarship program for graduating high-school seniors, an annual joint worship service, and other cooperative efforts.
